Getting involved in clubs in high school is a good way to meet peers with similar interests and values and can look good on college applications. South offers many clubs that are related to sports, academics, community service, and hobbies of certain people.
Environmental club is one of the newer clubs at South. The premise of the environmental club is to focus on community action in conservation. From recycling to running the composting station in South’s cafeteria, the club is working to create a more eco friendly Saxon family.
“Environmental club strives to make South and the surrounding community a more environmentally conscious and sustainable place,” said Maxwell Moeller ‘18, president of the environmental club.
DECA is another popular club offered at South, known for placing high at state and international competitions. The premise of the club is professional development in business; members of DECA spend the year working on business proposals and projects with local businesses. DECA is what is referred to as a “co curricular” club, meaning the projects that members work on in class are the ones submitted to the competitions through the club.
“It’s not just business, it applies to any career that you might want to go into. It‘s professional development, it’s presentations, proposals and every career does that,” said John Dixon, advisor for DECA.
