Saxon’s Got Talent, a talent show assembly where students show their special abilities by performing on stage, was held on May 26.
People sang along, cheered, and were waving flashlights along with the music. Judges decided to sum up the four best performances, and the audience was left to decide what act would become the winner of the 2017’s Saxon’s Got Talent.
The last four contestants or groups were: Kudzai and Kundai Kapurura ‘19 performing an original piece of slam poetry called “A Look Inside”, an acapella group, the Acafellas, singing “Bastille” by Pompeii, Conrad Williamson ‘18 with his Gangnam style dance, and also Carlos, Mikaya Justen ‘17, and Trace performing a basketball mash-up.
“It is a nice way to end my senior year and my full four years. The acapellas have been around since 2007, it was first started by a bunch of people who are long gone, “Max Morter ‘17 said, who was a member of the Acafellas. “This past year was my final one and so performing in the talent show was a part of that and making the top four felt right, something we really have been working for three years even if the group members aren’t the same it something that the program of acapellas , the vision that has been there the whole time was finally being realized and I really appreciate that.”
At the end, the winner was Williamson, chosen for his Gangnam Style dance even while having to improvise when he faced technical difficulties with the music.
“It really didn’t matter if I won or lost because at the end of the day what was important was that my message was said, even if everyone didn’t understand it the way I meant them to. If at least one person’s heart changed or was provoked it could change someone’s life and I think everything is always one step at a time. If everyone did one thing it could change a life and that could eventually change the world, ” Kudzai Kapurura ’19 said.
