1: It shows that people will only listen if you commit suicide.
Hannah Baker is a depressed teen who before she commits suicide, makes 13 tapes for the people who are in a way “responsible” for her sudden death. Just as these tapes are released, people pay attention. Hannah Baker never tried to get help which shows a moral that killing yourself will make people listen and pay attention to your problems.
2: Hannah Baker never got help or seeked it; especially when she was raped.
Though this kind of thing happens with many rape victims, Hannah bottled her feelings which eventually had an effect on the decision to commit suicide.
3: It shows triggering scenes of her committing suicide.
Suicide is a harsh topic that we lose many teens to every year, it is not something that should be broadcasted and openly shown because it can lead people into thinking about making this decision and wondering if it’s the right option for them.
4: The book is better
“The show is just too dramatized and unrealistically portrays teen suicide” says Katy Morris a 9th grader at South Salem High says. Some books are too good to be made into movies or shows, many agree that this is one of them.
5: Hannah Baker blames her peers for her suicide
The tapes basically blame 13 people in her life for her suicide. This may teach young teens that it is okay to blame people, when in the end the choice of suicide is yours and yours only even when there may be other contributing factors.
