Mother’s day is held on the second Sunday of May, this year that lands on May 14. The day honors all the mothers that have put their love and devotion into raising their children or child. This holiday is a great way to show one’s appreciation for their mom by presenting them with a gift.
“It is a day where me and my family get to celebrate everything my mom has done, we appreciate her. We give her a present and clean the house because she likes a clean house,” Olivia Sproed ’20 said.
Choosing a gift for someone is not always simple; there are several factors to consider: the person’s interests, the sincerity, and presentation. A gift can come from many places whether it be store bought, handcrafted, or a mix of both. It is key to buy or make something of interest of the individual to know whether or not the recipient of the gift will make use of it. Here is a list of several tips and ideas for mother’s day presents:
Buying Gift
Be sincere and do not randomly choose a present. It is always good to choose something from the heart. Those who do choose to buy a gift should make sure that it is presented nicely, instead of being thrown in a plastic bag. Some ideas for purchased gifts are:
1. Flowers
For last minute shoppers or people who like to add a spring touch, flowers from a store are just right.
2. Chocolate
A simple sweet treat with flowers is good too.
Personalized Locket Necklace or Bracelet
Choosing specific charms to fill the locket is a good gift, it shows that persons meaning through one’s eyes.
3. Card
A card is very simple but still can mean a lot with heart filled words.
Handmade Gifts
Do it yourself, or DIY, presents should be made with best effort. Putting best effort in a project shows how much one cares. DIY ideas are:
1. Card
Handcrafted cards are special, it will be like no other.
2. Treasure Candle
This is a homemade candle with a “treasure” inside, you uncover the treasure over time as
the candle melts to the bottom. The treasure can be anything from a special letter to
Jewelry. A tutorial on how to make these can be found on Youtube, the video that inspired this idea was made by VasseurBeauty.
3. Paper flowers
Store bought flowers are lovely but origami flowers like a few roses or lilies can be memorable and their beauty last forever.
4. Breakfast in bed
A common Mother’s Day tradition is making breakfast for one’s mother and serving it to her in bed.
All these gifts are good ways to express appreciation for one’s mother whether it is a simple homemade gift to a fancy store bought present.
