Make A Mark With Makerspace

In October of 2015, students at Greater Johnstown Senior High School were given the opportunity to build a new organization within the school that would help students to take a more active role in their community and give them the supplies to make a mark.

Now, after two years of preparation, the organization is finally ready to get its feet off the ground with the school’s “Maker Space” room.

Aiden Stewart, senior, Mr Devin Carosi, social studies teacher, Mr. Heinrich, principal, and several other people around the building are getting involved in the initiative and trying to make this idea a reality.

The group is run by a student advisory group, along with a group of staff members that includes the entire group of vocational teachers.

The total amount of funding given to the school for this program back in 2015 was $67,650, all of which comes from a State Farm grant program.

“The Makerspace group will be run by a collaboration of staff members at the high school and a student council”, Mr. Carosi, one of the staff members involved, said.
