Everyone knows that the use of drugs and alcohol are common in teenagers and young adults, but does anyone know how common they actually are. Well lets start with drugs. You hear all the time how people do drugs and how " great " they are and make you feel. After this you won't feel that way anymore. Drugs like Adderall and Marijuana are only some of the most common drugs used by teens and young adults. Here are some stats to back this up, 2.5% of all seniors in the U.S used cocaine alone, I know that the number might seem small but that is actually 875,000 Students in the United States. 91% of High School students smoke Marijuana, 24% use prescription Medicine. How many of you reading this know someone in your High School that sells drugs? 44% of all students know at least one person in school that sells drugs. Doing a Survey in my own school, I found out that after asking 40 random students that 62.5% of them have used or currently use drugs for recreation, now just imagine how many students are actually in a High School. That is a lot of students doing drugs. More than 30,000 Teenagers die from a drug overdose than people do from car crashes in the US. Just think, do you want to be one of those people?
Alcohol is also a very abused substance from teenagers and young adults. An average of 32% of students have tried alcohol at least once in there lives. 21% of students binge drink. Binge drinking is consuming and excessive amount of alcohol at one time. Most people binge drink at parties, most parties mean someone drives, and 22% of students drove in a car with someone after they have been drinking and 10% were driving after drinking. 4,300 teens and young adults under the age of 21 die each year from drunk driving accidents. Have you ever driven in a car with someone after that were drinking? Have you ever been the driver? What would you have done if that was you and you killed someone or someone killed you? How would your family feel ? How would the other persons family feel after you just killed there child? Just take if from me with personal experience. My uncle had one beer before leaving his job, he was driving home when his tire blew up, he lost control of the car and hit someone else. The passenger in that car wasn't wearing his seat belt, went through the window and died immediately. Now I know you're probably like that does his tire blowing up have to do with drunk driving. When the hospital took my uncles blood and tested it, he was under the influence of alcohol. My uncle is now serving a max of 7 years in jail for drunk driving and vehicular homicide. He never thought it would happen to him, but it did. It can happen to anyone.
Drugs and Alcohol affect a lot of people in this world, If you ever think about using either of them, think of this and then think again. You know your story doesn't have to end like my uncle's. We all have a purpose, don't kill the greatness of you or anyone else. Drugs and Alcohol are not worth it. Don't be another Statistic. Think before you act, it could save your life one day.
