Let's learn about ferrets. Well, first, ferrets come from the Latin name Mestala Putorius Furo, which means smelly, little thief--not very complimentary as far as names go. They are related to minks, weasels, otters and badgers, and like them, they're carnivorous mammals. They can sleep up to 18 hours a day, but are very active, otherwise, and can live up to 6-8 years.
As little and cute as they may look, the meaning of their name is not so far off after all; ferrets have the ability to kill rabbits and rodents by using their very good sense of smell and hearing to make up for their poor eyesight.
In Australia, ferrets are becoming popular as pets because like the traditional pet, the dog, ferrets are trainable animals.
You may have to be careful and aware that they love to steal and chew everything and can end up smelling bad. But, these little thieves are quite adorable.
