Out of all the types of animals that students could own as pets whether it be dogs, cats, goldfish, or reptiles we all have a companion covered in fur or in scales they're always there waiting for us when we get home from our eventful days at school. After running a poll throughout grades 9 through 12 here at Greater Johnstown High School, we found that out of sixty students, the majority of students preferred having a dog as a pet opposed to any other animal.
Senior Brandon Esparza at GJHS was a part of the majority of the poll as being a dog lover. He says, Tthey're comforting and fun to be around.” Esparza also includes, “They love you unconditionally, and they're for sure resilient; they're a mans bestfriend!”
Although the majority of the students involved in the poll preferred a dog as a pet, there were still a few who preferred other animals rather than the average dog or cat. One of these few is Leah Eisenhuth, a junior. She talks about her exotic reptile companion. Leah owns an iguana. “I like seeing the surprised looks on people's faces when I tell them I have an iguana as a pet,” Eisenhuth says. “I like having a different type of animal as a pet. I find having a dog or cat as a pet is so cliche. It's a lot of work to keep up with him, but it's worth it. I like having something different.”
This poll brought together a small group of all grades at Greater Johnstown to see that all grades share some similarities as to what furry or scaley friends they share in common.
