As a catcher in softball you have to be dominate. You have to embody key traits to be back behind the plates such as a being vocal, have a strong arm, being able to block, frame a pitch, throw down to the bases, have speed, and be able to catch a pitch.
I have been catching since I was in 7th grade. At the current time, I catch for my travel team, Ohio Outlaws Elite, and my high school’s team, the Lady Trojans.
Most people view the pitcher, not the catcher, as the leader of a game. However, being behind the plate makes me and every catcher in charge of the game. You signal to the pitcher what pitch to pitch. Also, the catcher should remind the team how many outs there are and where the next play will be, every batter.
Since, I have been catching for sometime now, I feel confident and dominate behind home plate to where nothing fazes me.
Behind the plate is where I'm most at home.
