On November 8th, the students at Greater Johnstown Middle School had an election day to imitate what voting is really like.
Only the students who registered were allowed to vote, which was over 600 students. They had just three minutes on a chromebook to vote. In that time, they had to include their first and last name, gender, grade, and which elementry school they attended to see if there were any comparisons.
The students also had their own “House” based off on who teacher was, “Pride or Tradition” meaning each grade was divided in half.
“Pride is one half and Tradition is the other. There are 210 8th graders and about 105 are part of the PRIDE house and 105 are part of the TRADITION house,” said 8th grade Civics teacher, Mr. Christian Wrabley.
The exit poll for the students were what they think is the most important issue, for example: Broken Government, Race Issues, or Climate Control.
When asked which president he was voting for, 8th grade civics student, Lance McConnell answered, “I am voting for Trump because he’ll stand up to ISIS and make America great again.”
Harrite Holt, also an 8th grade civics student, said, “I’m voting for Hillary because she has experience in office.”
Out of eleven students in one civics class, four are voting for Trump, five for Hillary, one for Gary Johnson, and one is undecided.
