Olivia Samms bursted onto the scene of young adult fiction novels with her debut book, titled Sketchy on April 20, 2013. The story focuses on a young girl named Bea Catcher ( as you may have guessed from the title of the series). Bea has just gotten out of rehab after being admitted to cure her of her addiction to narcotics.
Soon after returning to what should have been her normal life, Bea finds out that students from her high school have been disappearing and being found murdered and sexually assaulted. Pretty soon, she learns that she has started to develop a special ability - she can literally “draw” the truth out of people. She has always had a skill for drawing, but now she finds that she is able to draw whatever a person is thinking about without them even telling her.
Soon, she gets caught up in the life of the latest victim of the rapist, who is the only one to survive thus far, and tries to help catch the perpetrator, all while trying to piece her life back together and reconnect with old friends.
Samms does a great job at portraying the life of a teenager who is just trying to live her life while trying to deal with problems that no human normally has to put up with. The characters in the book are three-dimensional, dynamic, and easy to connect with, providing an all-around fun reading experience.
