Even after competing in only a few tournaments, the CHS Boys Varsity Golf Team has had some exciting achievements. Scores were broken, hard shots were made and a few Discoverers placed top at a tournament.
On the April 4 tournament in Omaha at Stone Creek Golf Course, there were some great scores and achievements. Varsity senior Tyson Weber broke 80 for the first time this year (74) and placed first. Closing out second place was varsity sophomore Keaton Barnes who also broke 80 for the first time and shot a 79. Coach Robertson is very proud of them for these achievements especially since it is early in the season.
Next, the boys played at Kearney’s Meadowlark Hills Golf Course. The best score from that tournament was Barnes’ 82. He placed 12th out of 75.
Lastly, on the April 10 tournament in Norfolk Country Club, the team finished 9th out of 12 teams. Barnes’ 81 was enough to earn him 21st place. He had some difficult shots that he was able to get out of easily. Weber was not far behind with an 82, followed by sophomore Owen Lawrence who shot an 86.
Both coaches Anne Robertson and Mark Brown are very proud of their players. They have been working very hard at practice and perfecting their swings. The players are feeling good about their performance as well. Barnes replied, “We got off to a slow start but now we are starting to get into the swing of things, pun intended.”
With how much the boys practice, and the support each player gets from their parents, coaches, and fellow players, the 2022-2023 Varsity Golf Season should be one to remember.
