"Passion and Intensity," Mick Bubak to Retire from CHS

You know his voice when it bellows down the hallway and his face when you see it, but, unfortunately, it is time to say goodbye to that familiar man, Mick Bubak.

Bubak has been teaching for 33 amazing years. Bubak has taught at Wausa, O’Nell, Genoa, Schuyler, Lakeview, and Columbus High. Bubak says he is grateful for “being able to last as long as I have” in the teaching industry and “most of all, being able to work with good kids”.

Bubak is an admiral person. His friends/coworkers have nothing but good things to say. One of his friends, Adam Kieswetter, says “We will always remember him for his passion and intensity” which I think everyone can agree on.

Coach Craig Williams, one of Mr. Bubak's friends stated, “I have known Mr Bubak for 23 Years.  The best way to describe Mr Bubak is that he is energetic, passionate and he demands attention when he speaks.  He is loud.  He is always good for a fantastic joke, or funny video on Social Media.  He Is Loud.  Bubak is a people person.  He will strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere and he knows more people than most the rest of us combined.  Have I mentioned he is LOUD?  I am going to miss sharing 80's movie quotes with Mr Bubak  in the hallway, and having a source for all of the fresh gossip.”

Some advice Bubak would give to first-year teacher or wannabe teachers is to “Go with the flow, try and not get too worked up about those students who don't care. There will be those kids every year and no matter what you do, they will drive you nuts. Let it go.”

Bubak has touched many hearts of high school student-athletes and countless students. As one of those student-athletes, I would like to say thank you on behalf of the lives you have changed. The newspaper team wishes you the most relaxing retirement!

Personally, I will miss Bubak being my number-one cheerleader on the mat. Bubak has helped me grow so much and never doubted me. He helped me develop my love for wrestling, taught me to shut up and be tough and countless other valuable lessons both in sport and in life. My senior year of high school wrestling won't be the same without him screaming the wrong name at me from the dainty chair he doesn’t use on the corner of the mat or explaining things to me and the other clueless girls about what to do. I treasure every match he has attended.

Thank you, you will be missed.
