So far, the girl’s tennis season has been all aces to start the year. They have been practicing and training hard to make this season memorable.
Coach Leibhart says the team has played two matches; the first match was on March 23rd, and their most recent one was on March 28, against Norfolk for the Maroon Cup. Leibhart says that the girls practiced hard to prepare for these past matches, and their efforts paid off. She has seen improvement and says the team will continue to do so as they advance through their tournaments and duals.
As they continue to train and practice, these athletes are not only getting better, but they are making friendships along the way as well. Sarah Lasso shares that the team has great camaraderie. They are supportive of each other and always cheer each other on. She looks forward to spending time with each of her teammates, who make up a great squad that is willing to put up a good fight.
So far, Lasso and her partner Taylor Loontjer have had a spectacular season! They have won all of their home duals. She says that although they have been partners in the past, she feels their communication has gotten better. They had an amazing match against Norfolk recently, and she hopes that they both will continue to grow and perform better each time they hit the court.
Being a senior this year, Lasso is determined to make the most of this season. Her personal goals are to stay present, patient, and concentrated throughout her games. She hopes to improve and develop stronger serves and cross-court shoots. She believes these are some of her biggest takeaways from the previous season and is determined to benefit from them.
It is very clear that Lasso is very passionate about tennis, and she continues to push herself to become better with each day. However, to her, victory isn’t the only thing she tries to achieve.
“I wish to enjoy my time with the team and represent CHS in the best possible way. I want to stay positive and not take myself too seriously. I am extremely competitive but I want to focus on my shoots and not simply the victory.”
CHS is very lucky to have such a supporting and hard-working girl’s tennis team with spectacular athletes. The season isn’t wrapped up yet, and as it continues, let’s wish this incredible group of girls a successful season with sweet memories and fulfilling experiences! The next home game the tennis team has is on April 6, at Pawnee and Gerrard Parks, so make sure to mark your calendars!
