The CHS Winter Percussion, led by Jerry Peabody, is off to a great start and looking forward to an exciting season! The CHS Winter Percussion meets every Monday through Thursday from 4-6pm in the band room along with Tuesdays from 6:45 to 7:50am in the school gym to practice.
They have yet to perform, but their competitive seasons begin soon. Their first event will be held on February 4 at Elkhorn North.
This year also marks the much-anticipated return of the CHS Winter Percussion Competition on February 18! This competition will be from 4-7:30pm and will have amazing performances from schools all over including Millard West, Elkhorn South, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Gretna, and many more! Columbus is scheduled to perform at 6:04pm that day and admission will be $15 for adults, and $10 for students. C-stamps will not be allowed.
After hosting, CHS will travel to Papillion-La Vista South on March 4. The season will wrap up in Denver, Colorado to compete in the Winter Guard International competition on March 12. Mr.Peabody says that his goal for this season is to place in the top three at their regional competition.
At the moment, the ensemble is currently practicing a show that is similar to what the band performs in the fall. The show for this group is called “Spark.” Peabody is most proud that the students in this highly involved activity, “work very hard to put all aspects of music memorization and visuals together for an effective show, how hard they work to be great and how much they work to help each other.”
The 2023 CHS Winter Percussion is up to some amazing musical things this semester, and we wish them the best of luck at their upcoming competitions! Be sure to go and support the percussion this season as well.
