Art has the potential to bring people together and make complicated, powerful emotions shine through. Those who are artistically inclined channel their feelings into art, resulting in incredible eye candy. Naturally, these masterpieces will need a place to come to life, which is why the CHS Art Club is the perfect sanctuary.
The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:50 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., usually in Mrs. Stodola's classroom.
While art occupies most of the meetings, bonds form while paints are drying, masterpieces build while pottery is fired and facts abound about art legends and their accomplishments. Another great thing about Art Club is that it is a place where students are encouraged to practice their skills outside of the classroom structure and are allowed to use some materials outside of the board-certified curriculum found in an art class elective. Every artist needs somebody to share their hard work with, and in this club, you and all of your artistically gifted friends can do just that!
Meetings aren't the only thing you can expect out of Art Club. They also partake in a number of projects for CHS. Such projects include designing the musical scenery, hosting the famous Waffleman at the Winter Fine Arts Festival, art shows in December and May and holiday cookie decorating.
CHS isn't the only school enhanced by Art Club, either. Their Art Buddy Book project teams up an Art Club member with an elementary school student for a weekly exchange of drawings and notes.
Any skilled or amateur artists interested in joining this club must fill out an application in the fall. The application asks about your previous art experience, strengths and weaknesses in groups and their other commitments. It is essential to have exceptional people skills and reliability.
On top of everything else they do, the club will be having a fundraiser come spring, even though the details are still a little fuzzy. Around that time, they will take a day trip to the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum in Kansas City.
All in all, Art Club has its palette full of artistic fun. Don't miss your chance to join this club and get your fill of both art and heart!
