Sparkle Cheer is a Unified Sports Team that allows a unique group of girls to participate in a sport they normally may not have been able to. This cheer squad also allows the members to work with partner cheerleaders from the CHS Cheer team. Sparkle Cheer is an uplifting and inspiring program that shows participants how to truly sparkle.
Coach Brenda Huey's most significant task is working with the Sparkle cheerleaders to get their group comfortable performing in front of a crowd. Though challenging, the team gets a little better with each practice and performance. Huey's squad hopes to continue progressing with performances at basketball games and pep rallies with their cheer partners. All those improvements will culminate with a February trip to the Nebraska State Cheer and Dance Championships at the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island.
One of the many great things about this group is their togetherness. Huey explained, “I enjoy being a coach of Sparkle Cheer because the program facilitates the girls I work with to build healthy relationships with good role models. They learn how to present themselves positively in the community, and they have the opportunity to participate in activities that they may not get to otherwise."
Clearly, Sparkle Cheer is a fantastic organization. Come see these hardworking girls sparkle on December 1 when the Discoverers take on Bellevue West Thunderbirds, December 22 against the North Platte Bulldogs, February 3 against the Grand Island Islanders and February 10 against the Millard South Patriots.
