For those who want to help the community, teach others and become a better person, the National Honor Society is for you.
However, one does not simply join NHS; one must be invited to apply. In other words, you need to receive an invitation in the mail, fill it out and be chosen by a committee of teachers before you're inducted into this time-honored honorary. Applicants are typically notified roughly two weeks after the application deadline by mail. According to sponsor Kelli Soltys, the number of students inducted "depends on how many students apply and how many are accepted.
This year's National Honor Society induction ceremony will be on November 8 in Columbus High School's Concert Hall. No admission will be charged, and the ceremony will be about an hour long. Everyone is welcome to attend. After, NHS will provide refreshments to celebrate the new inductees.
Soltys, who's in her fifth year in charge of NHS, stated, "National Honor Society is a prestigious group to be involved in. Students in the National Honor Society have many opportunities to develop their leadership skills further. Students also are able to get involved in service projects around the school and community. NHS hosts the blood drive at CHS and helps collect the recycling and trash outside the school. Students have also helped with the Duncan craft fair, the Centennial book fair during parent-teacher conferences, babysitting during PTO meetings at the elementary schools and award the CHS Staff Member of the Month"
Make sure you keep your grades up to get an application next year. The advisors are looking for students with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
