The Columbus High School Softball team has had a busy last few weeks.
Fourth-year head coach Kelsey Plance is very proud of her team and how far they have come this season. The players have had excellent execution on the field and all signs are pointing to a promising future for the program. “I am proud of the way girls continue to fight in most games, especially when we start behind. We have come back and won games due to their efforts of fighting each inning.
As the season concluded last Thursday, the DIscoverers boasted 13 wins and 23 losses. However, the team got hot at the right time. Plance stated, “We just finished 2-2 this past weekend at the conference tournament. We finished 4th in the Heartland Athletic Conference (HAC), beating Lincoln High 11-4, Fremont 4-3, and losing to LSW 8-0 and Norfolk 9-2.”
Going forward, Plance plans on working on enhancing communication on the field and bringing energy into games and practices.
“Communication is the key to success and in softball, everyone needs to be able to communicate. If we do not communicate we tend to make some mistakes. It is something we continually bring up and something that we can control! When we bring the E we play lights out! Energy and communication are effective, and we look forward to finishing strong in both areas this week at districts.”
While the team is graduating Emma Riedmiller, Jenna Taylor, Lindsay Ohnoutka, and Kelyn Garrelts. The team hopes to retain juniors Jaylynn Sylvester, Jaylynn Spencer, Ashton Thoms, Danica Taylor, Jada Grape, Kyra Bowen, Marissa Anderson, Hannah Dalke, and Jordyn Trotta as well as Somphores Bella Larson, Callen Huele, Lexus Hill, and Freshman Alayna Kudron.
