CHS Girls Golf Season
This season for girls' golf at Columbus High School has been a roller coaster with highs, lows, and all of the in-betweens. Throughout this season, these teens have worked hard to achieve their individual goals and make it to state.
Our team had four girls make it to state this year. Out of twelve teams, our team placed eighth. Freshmen Molly Goc, Sophomore Jersey Odgaard, Junior Elizabeth Mowrey, Senior Sarah Lasso, and Senior Anna Massman participated in the state meet and competed with bold intensity. CHS originally entered this competition in the 11th seed, and finished in the 8th. Out of the twelve teams that competed, CHS made a solid stand. Senior Sarah Lasso had an amazing finish to her last golf season, winning runner-up in state. Her gross score was a 154, only three strokes away from first place.
Her mother Lilliana Velasco is extremely proud of her daughter and shares that Sarah has met her personal goal of medaling in every meet. Sarah went into state-ranked No. 5 for class A women's golf. Her best score throughout the season was a 72, a perfect par score. Although Sarah has been doing an outstanding job, she has faced some difficulties as well. Velasco explains, "Her most challenging meet was districts where she lost the district title during a play-off whole, and missed a putt that cost her the first place finish." Sarah ended up getting runner-up at that meet due to her small, yet crucial mistake.
Luckily, three of the five of our state competitors are highly likely to continue onto the next season.
With Elizabeth Mowrey becoming our future senior leader, our next season will be in good hands, and has the potential to be our best golf season yet.
