Music is the gateway to the soul and the love in our hearts.
Now, we know most of you look to our “Said” series for our subtle digs at one another as well as our entertaining stances on the divisive issues of our day, but you won’t find our usual taunts in this article. Rather than launching casual affronts at each other for our choices in music, Carla and I will simply be celebrating the types of music we tend to enjoy.
Olivya
To begin, the most elegant, underrated, and underappreciated singer that you may or may not have heard of is Lana Del Rey. Lana Del Rey is known for her trending Tik Tok track, “Summertime Sadness” where many love the lines “I think I’ll miss you forever like the stars miss the sun in the morning sky”. Another hit of Lana’s song “Young and Beautiful” is also found in the famous movie “The Great Gatsby” played by the one and only, Leonardo Dicaprio.
Although many individuals have different ways to interpret or relate to her songs, to me, all her songs hit straight to the heart. When Lana writes her albums, you can tell every song has a heart-wrenching meaning behind it. Who knows - maybe you will find love in this artist that you never knew you had!
Much like Lana, another among my favorite artists found remarkable success on Tik Tok.
Do you remember when Tik Tok was just starting to become popular along with the newest song “Train Wreck” by James Arthur? Well, I sure do! If James Arthur is not added to your playlist right now, you should definitely get on it.
Arthur garnered attention after winning “X Factor UK'' in 2012. After his reality show triumph, he started to produce more songs that went with his life struggles such as the song “Emily” which was made for his unborn daughter after his girlfriend suffered an ectopic pregnancy. When “Train Wreck” was a top hit in 2016, many listeners felt as though they could relate to the song. “Train Wreck” expressed how James felt about his dreams and purpose in life. Although these two talented artists may not be the regular artists you listen to, I definitely advise you to give them a shot.
Whether or not you choose Carla’s music artists or mine, you will for sure have a grand time listening to some new tunes.
Carla
The Arctic Monkeys is one of the hottest bands in music right now. This indie rock band is composed of members Alex Turner, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook, Nick O’Malley, and Andy Nicholson.
Arctic Monkeys’ songs, mostly from their AM album, have been blowing up on social media. Though the album was released in 2013 and was very popular at the time. Recently, the songs made a comeback in popularity. This album has hit the charts multiple times since its release and is the most successful album they've ever produced.
The main tunes making their rounds on all our feeds are “I Wanna Be Yours” and “Do I Wanna Know.” With incredible guitarists and vocals that’ll blow your socks off, Arctic Monkeys is the band you should check out if you haven’t already.
While having different music styles, you’ll find that BORNS a.k.a Garrett Clark Borns, has similarities to Arctic Monkeys. BORNS also focuses on the indie and alternative genres, though both are worthy of such adoration.
BORNS, the artist who brought you the most overplayed song of all time, “Electric Love,” has more to offer than 9 am radio while commuting to a job that you probably don’t like. Although “Electric Love” had its well-deserved moment, some of BORNS’ other songs warrant the same glorification.
A lot of his popular songs come from the 2015 Album “Dopamine” such as “Dopamine”, “Past lives”, “Holy Ghost” and “American Money.” This album is all about feeling the surges of excitement, happiness, and satisfaction. All these feelings are guaranteed with no returns when listening to such a sugar-filled ensemble.
