Homemade Dog Treats
Olivya Thege
Are you looking for something enjoyable to do? Well, I have a great idea. As we know, pets hold a special place in our hearts and are basically considered family. I think it’s time to save money, have fun, and make our own homemade dog treats for our furry pets. Here are the steps to completing your dog treats!
Materials:
-
2 medium-sized bowls
-
A rubber scraper
-
Measuring cups
-
Pan
-
Parchment paper
-
Plastic bag
-
scissors
-
Cookie cutters (optional)
Ingredients for the Treats:
-
2 1 /2 cups of whole wheat flour
-
1 egg
-
1 cup of water
-
1 cup of peanut butter
-
2 tablespoons of honey
Ingredients for the Frosting (optional):
-
1 / 3 cup of cornstarch
-
2 tablespoons of peanut butter
-
1 tablespoon of honey
-
3-4 tablespoons of hot water
Steps for the Treats:
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
-
Pour ALL ingredients for the treats into one large bowl.
-
Use your rubber spatula to mix the ingredients together until it reaches a dough-like consistency. If the dough becomes too difficult to mix with the spatula, use your hands to kneed the mixture as needed (pun intended).
-
Next, prepare your pan with parchment paper so that the dough does not stick to the pan while baking.
-
Now, add 2 1/2 cups of flour. Mix into the
-
Sprinkle flour on a clean surface and begin flattening out the mixture. You may either use the cookie cutters to have a delightful design before baking or simply cut it up into random pieces after the baking process.
-
Toss the pan into the oven for a good 18-20 minutes until the dough is a gold color.
Steps for the Frosting (optional):
-
Take your bowl and combine 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and 1 tablespoon of honey.
-
Melt these in the microwave for about 15 seconds. As it melts, take another bowl and dump in your 1/ 3 cup of cornstarch.
-
Slowly pour the melted mixture into the bowl of cornstarch. Mix very slow!
-
As you mix, add 3-4 tablespoons of hot water so that it gives the mixture a flowy, frosting look. Add more water if needed, but only add a teaspoon or so at a time.
-
Now, that your frosting is made, let’s move on to how to make a homemade piping bag. Take a small plastic bag and pour the frosting into it.
-
Once that is completed, cut one corner at the bottom of the plastic bag so that you can pipe a fun design to your dog treats.
-
Go ahead and let your doggo have a try at your new homemade dog treats!
Although these dog treats should be made for your lovely dog, why not go ahead and give them a try too? I mean it is made out of ingredients that humans can eat. After making these for my dog, I had to give it a try, and let me tell you, it was not THAT bad (but you did not hear that from me). Anyway, I hope while making these dog treats that you sprinkled a little bit of love in there as well. After all, humans get to treat themselves any time they want; why not let our fellow doggies have one too?
