This year's spring sports season is here, and CHS boys golf is ready to hit the links! But first, what is golf? What are the links? What is being hit? Anchor News is ready to fill in amateur and enthusiast alike about why this year’s team promises to be quite special!
To begin, golf is played when an individual uses a crooked club to hit balls into a series of small cups on a course known as “holes.” The players try to achieve this feat in as few strokes as possible.
Nebraska State Athletics Association golf competitions are played with teams of five players. The lowest four scores are awarded points used to determine a team winner. Invites, conference and district meets are 18 hole events. The state meet is 36 holes. While 9 to 15 teams compete in invites, only 12 teams will qualify for state out of the 4 districts.
The boys golf team is coached by Anne Robertson. Her main goal for this season is for the team to shoot 320 or under. If this goal is achieved, the next objective would be to qualify for state as a team.
On Thursday, March 31, the boys golf team traveled to Norfolk for the Norfolk-Fremont triangular. The varsity team came in third place with a team score of 372. The JV team came in last place with a score of 465. Columbus High School senior Brock Kuhlman came in second place for the individual medalists with a personal score of 81.
April 1, the team traveled to Grand Island for the Grand Island Invite. Columbus came in 8th place as a team and senior Brock Kuhlman came in 12th place with a personal score of 80. The next meet for the team is April 8 at Kearney Invite.
All in all, the boys golf team has started off the season well, and we wish them more good meets. For more sports follow Anchor News on Fusfoo, Twitter, and Instagram.
