This year, Columbus High School has sanctioned the first girls wrestling team as a genuine team. Many girls are excited about this season and their meets.
The wrestlers on the team all were interviewed and asked about their goals for the season. Some of the girls want to help their teammates, while others want to win as much as they can.
The team had their first meet on December 2nd, 2021 against Grand Island. The girls were very nervous, but once they got going, their nerves went away. All the wrestlers put up a good fight.
Sophomore, Marissa Anderson went against Grand Island wrestler Kim Gonzalez. Anderson pinned Gonzalez in 14 seconds, winning her match. Danica Taylor, another sophomore at CHS, wrestled Anyia Roberts from Grand Island. Taylor pinned Roberts in 62 seconds.
Even though the wrestlers did not win the dual against Grand Island, they are still very happy with their progress and what they have accomplished so far. The next meets are on December 28th, in the Winnebago Invite, January 6th Invite at CCC, January 14th in Schuyler, January 17th in Battle Creek, and January 29th in the Norfolk Invite.
