The CHS swim team is back at it again in the 2021-2022 season. With a strong team of 25, this team has a lot in store for them.
Head coach Alyssa Dillon’s main goal for this season is to make it to state. Dillon states, “We had a lot of seniors leave and some swimmers moved away, so we have a lot of holes on our relays. Those relays are typically the best chance of making it to state.” This team has several individual goals as well.
Junior Jonathan Reiff returns with the same general goal of making state, but he also wants to become a more closely bonded team. Reiff has worked tediously this year in order to help the new freshmen on the team. His advice for the underclassmen swimmers is to just keep trying and not give up even when the becomes difficult.
Senior Liz Svatora brings back her 500 relay with the goal of getting her time to 6 minutes. Svatora has worked very hard during practice to decrease her times for her events. Outside of the pool, Liz is excited to finally have the chance to bond with her team and have team meals, especially after the impact COVID-19 had on team get-togethers. Her advice for underclassmen swimmers is to believe in themselves and be proud of what they are doing.
With the new season barely starting, there are plenty of events coming to look forward to. Some upcoming events are a variety of home meets. On December 9 Columbus will host Lincoln Northeast and will invite a bevy of swimmers later that week on December 11.
Many events this season will take place after the new year. The first event of 2022 is the home meet against Lincoln High on January 6. The season will conclude with the team heading to state on February 25 and 26. The location of the state meet has yet to be announced.
