Have you seen the glamorous art projects around the school? Have you wondered who makes them? Art club is an after-school club based on using your knowledge and skills of art to make beautiful projects.
Mrs. Stodola, one of Art Club’s sponsors, says she wants to promote the art department in the school as well as in general. They would like to have a positive presence around the building and among themselves through their projects. In order to spread this presence, Art club meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 5 P.M.
Covid 19 affected a lot throughout the past year, and Art Club was no exception. Mrs. Stodola said, “The biggest complication (fellow sponsor) Mrs. Campbell and I encountered was that we were not able to start Art Club last year until the 4th Quarter when restrictions relaxed enough for us to feel comfortable having a large number of students together.”
Aside from what you see in the hallways, Art Club does projects for other school activities as well. A few of the projects they are doing include decorating “Pandora's Box" for the marching band’s field show, and painting the backdrop for the musical “The Baker's Wife”. The students are also doing Art buddies where they partner with West Park Elementary 3rd graders to take turns sending drawings back and forth in a booklet.
Mrs. Campell and Mrs. Stodola would one day like to take Art Club on art field trips. They want the students to understand how important the arts are and want them to know how to keep using their skills and knowledge to find careers they love.
To sum up, Art club is a wonderful way to get your creative side out there, through projects for the school, community, and themselves. For more information on Art club, email Mrs. Stodola at stodolaj@discoverers.org or Mrs. Campbell at campbellc@discoverers.org.
