In order to get excited about spring, I like to make a spring bucket list of outdoor activities. It can be easy to get stuck inside watching TV or napping. Going outside is good for you both physically and mentally. As such, today I will share a few things off of my bucket list with you.
One of the activities that always makes it to the top of my bucket list is picnics and feeding the ducks. I love to grab a group of friends and go to Pawnee Park. Pawnee Park has a pavilion, three playgrounds, a pond, and a trail to walk along. If you would like to make the picnic into a potluck type, have everyone bring their own dessert. Bringing along a speaker to play music while we eat is another great addition to the picnic. Some good background music is Cheeseburger in Paradise by Jimmy Buffet. If you are going somewhere with a pond, bring a loaf of bread and some croutons for the ducks. There is something so relaxing about feeding the ducks and watching them swim around. Having a nice picnic with friends can almost be a day-long event. If you do not want to have a picnic, a barbeque is fun too. Barbeques entail hanging out in the backyard, socializing with your friends, and eating a delicious burger.
Conversely, there are activities you can enjoy independently too. One of my favorites is reading outside or gardening. Curling up in the sunshine with a good book is one of the most relaxing ways to spend an afternoon. A particularly interesting and engaging book is Crazy House, by James Patterson. Gardening can be as small or large of a hobby as you wish. It can be a day job of planting a little line of daisies or marigolds in the front yard, or it can be a season-long vegetable garden. Personally, I fancy having a barrage of succulents. Succulents are beautiful plants, and are easy to tend to.
Having said that, it can be good to get out of the house, slather on some sunscreen, and venture away from the electronic screens! Some fun outdoor adventures to go on include canoeing, bike riding, or camping. Canoeing is one of my favorite activities, as long as the water is nice and warm. Otherwise you can go on a long bike ride - maybe even train and join a biking marathon. Camping is a great way to get outside and a good excuse to take off your shoes and walk in the damp grass (What are you going to do? Track dirt in the house?). It does not matter what journey you decide to embark on; just get out of the house and enjoy the fresh air and mildly warm sunshine.
Staying inside should not be an option this spring! Go outside and relish in the crisp air, sunshine, and refreshing breeze. Create a fun bucket list in order to keep you engaged and active throughout this wonderful season.
