Swimmers Season Starts Superbly-Seconds Away From Secondary State Qualifying Times

The CHS swim team is off to a great start with two meets under their belts.

On December 3 the swim team had a dual against Fremont. They started off their season with three events getting secondary qualifying times for state, a feat the team was unable to accomplish by this point last season. Shae Drymon clocked in at 27.11 in her 50 free while Josue Mendez swam a 23.88 in his 50 free as well as a 1:04.79 in his 100 breast. While Fremont won on both the boys and girls dual, the Discovers saw a lot of great things.

Later, the Discoverer swim team competed in the Hastings invite on Saturday, December 5. Drymon and Mendez continued to drop time in their 50 free, finishing their heats in a time of 26.99 and 24.12 respectively. Drymon is a second off of a secondary on her 100 free at a 1:01, while Mendez also dropped nearly half a second in his 100 breast. The girls 200 medley relay (2:03.84) is closing in on a secondary, needing to shave three seconds seconds, and the girls 200 free relay is clocking in at 1:50, which is a second off of a secondary. Out of the seven teams competing at Hastings on Saturday, both the boys and the girls teams got fifth.

Since the season has just begun, the Discoverer swim team is concentrating its efforts on technique and building endurance. Later in the season, the swimmers will be working on their main events. “The new swimmers are jumping (in) and working hard!” Head Coach Alyssa Dillion stated. The team is continuously improving. The returners are swimming times that they were swimming in late January and early February last season and they continue to set PRs (personal records) from the end of last season. “This shows me we are ready to step more and push harder” Dillion stated.

In December, the Discoverer swim team will be competing in their home invite at the Columbus Aquatic Center on December 12th, a triangular at Burke on December 18th, and a dual at Lincoln North East on December 21st.

This is my first year on the Anchor News team and I am so excited. Along with Newspaper, I am involved in Marching Band and Swim Team. I love cows, especially fluffy cows. My favorite thing to do is watch movies in my bed, in the dark, alone, on Friday nights. My favorite food is spaghetti, so during swim season that is very handy because I can carb load like no one's business. I hate bats and can't even look at them without cringing. One thing I want to do someday is go to Greece and live out my Mamma Mia and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants fantasies.
