Person of the Year: Greta

Time Magazine gave its "Person of the Year" cover to Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. Time awards the cover to the person, group, idea, or even an object that "for better or for worse"  has had the most influence on the events of the past year.  At 16, Thunberg is the youngest person to earn the title in the magazine's 92-year history.  The teen has publicly called out world leaders for failing to stop a global warming despite the scientific facts.  She has pushed the message that the consequences of global warming trends will affect the world's children more than it affects anyone who's currently in power.

Teenage Girls and Politics

A new study has that Generation Z is the first in which women are more likely than their male peers to be engaged in politics.  Researchers and advocates have shown that representation, in both gender and race, does encourage participation in politics.  When women are elected to public office more women are encouraged to run. In theory, the same is true of young people.

Impeachment Push Continues

Both side of the aisle dig in as House Democrats prepare for a historic vote to formally impeach President Trump.  The House Judiciary Committee released a 658-page report detailing the case from both Democrats and Republicans.  The Senate is watching and waiting for the vote.  Mitch McConnell, majority leader, plans to meet with Senator Charles Schumer to discuss procedure should the impeachment move to the Senate.
