Community members from all over Fair Lawn arrived at Fair Lawn High School’s first pep rally of the year on Friday, September 13th. From parents with children currently enrolled at the high school to both underclassmen and upperclassmen students to many other community members, the event was well-attended and brought an early start to school-wide festivities. Many freshmen were in attendance and participated in the events, sharing what attracted them to come despite never having been to a pep rally before.
“I am a freshman and I wanted to see what it was about. I wanted to get involved with the school, and all my friends were coming, so, that's what made me want to come,” said a member of Fair Lawn High School’s Class of 2023.
Attendees at the pep rally had the opportunity to enjoy a host of activities, including games on the field, catching shirts fired into the audience, and cheering on the football team as they were introduced to the crowd. The event was a great place to hang out with friends and show school spirit.
“This is a great event. The turnout is awesome and it's a great way to bring the community together. There are a lot of families here who don’t have kids in the High School but who wanted to be a part of the fun. It's a nice way to showcase to the younger kids in town what we have to offer here at FLHS,” said Nicole Mattina, Assistant Principal of Fair Lawn High School.
The great turnout at the pep rally also helped to demonstrate the school’s support for the band, cheer, and football teams.
“[This is] an event that would support the football team, the cheer team and the band. I want the kids in Fair Lawn High School to be proud of Fair Lawn and involved,” said high school math teacher and JV cheer coach Melissa Gentile.
Those in attendance expressed how happy they were with the outcome at the pep rally.
“I think tonight was awesome, brought the community together, it showed school spirit, town spirit, I can’t wait for the next one,” said Joanne Marotta, a nurse at Fair Lawn High School and resident of Fair Lawn.
“I love it, I loved that the school came and supported, and how everyone came and interacted during the games, and had a lot of energy,” said a senior cheerleader and at Fair Lawn High School.
The next pep rally is slated to take place in November during Spirit Week at Fair Lawn High School.
