The much anticipated Fall Weekend sponsored by Young Life Tri-States on Nov. 18-20 at Lake Champion, N.Y. was a successful retreat that many students at Delaware Valley and other surrounding middle and high school students enjoyed.
Young Life is an international non-denominational Christian youth ministry that partners with secondary schools around the world to engage, support and build relationships with students. Leaders interact with teens by going to their games, competitions and anything else that the teens are passionate about.
Young Life Tri-States sponsors Campaigners, which is similar to a Bible study, and gives teens the chance to talk about and voice their opinions on issues that affect them, while also connecting faith-based concepts. Then there is Young Life Club which is the main event for students. Club is a time when the kids get to play crazy games, participate in skits and sing their lungs out.
Fall Weekend is a three-day retreat at Lake Champion with over 500 students from all over the northeast who come together to spend the weekend with other Young Life attendees.
“It was fun. I liked hanging out with all the people and there were a lot of fun games. The food was really good, and I made new friends,” said freshman Shane Boone.
At Lake Champion the campers played card games, sports, Ga-ga ball, Hacky Sack and other assorted games.
There is also a rock climbing wall, a game room and a three person 70-foot-high “screamer swing”.
“It was amazing, Fall Weekend was really great and I got really close to a lot of people that I did not think I would be able to get close to,” said junior Hannah Larson.
The camp is currently under construction to add a water slide complex to the newly expanded pools. Despite the ongoing construction and renovations Fall Weekend continued as planned.
“Being a Junior Leader is super fun because not only do I get to be a camper, but I get to have really great conversations with the girls and talk and hang out with them, but also be crazy at the same time,” said junior Jamie Wintermute. “Fall weekend is always so much fun because you get to do a bunch of random stuff like throw shaving cream at people, and I love singing and dancing with all my friends.”
Young Life Tri-States meets Thursdays with Campaigners starting at 6:00 and Club at 7:30, at the white house next to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Broad Street in Milford, Pa. All students from the Tri-State area are welcome to stop by and join in on all the Young Life fun.
