Last school year when I helped to start the Book Club at EJ, I knew that I wanted it to be a group that would make our community better in some way. I finally had the opportunity to see that happen in December, just in time for Christmas.
Our first community event was a drive, collecting anything that someone else could use, and we followed that with a book drive with the only price being the request for donations towards our local libraries. Having easy access to books has had a big impact on me throughout my life, and the goal of this was to give everyone that opportunity. Along with offering free books to those who want or need them, our support to libraries can also help give people a place to read and research at no cost.
Planning and running an event like this was a lot of fun, and the Book Club would love to do something like this again in the future. In fact, we currently plan to have another similar event in the spring, hopefully giving even more people an opportunity they might not have elsewhere.
