I was recently able to interview Newfield High School’s newest student psychologist, Ms.
Zeppieri. She has just graduated from St. Johns University this past May, and has been newly
hired here at Newfield.
Ms. Zeppieri’s experience at Newfield so far has been “very welcoming, and very different.”
She went to a Catholic school, and said that although the setting is different, she has found
everyone to be kind and open. In college, Ms. Zeppieri first majored in dance, and had her heart
set out for working at a dance company. However, after a knee injury, she realized she wanted to
broaden her horizons. She later did her undergrad major in human relations and majored in
school psychology, as she knew she wanted to work with kids, as well as help others with any
problems they may have. She says the best part of being a psychologist is helping others, and
that the most challenging part is wanting to help every student. Along with being a school
psychologist, Ms. Zeppieri continues her love for dancing by teaching a dance class to adults
with disabilities. She loves dance, reading, shopping, and being surrounded by friends and
family. Ms. Zeppieri is a fan of books over movies because they are more descriptive. She
recently read Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, a psychological thriller, as well as watched the
miniseries that stars Amy Adams.
When asked about how to cope with stress, she gave very helpful advice. She says, “You have
to make a healthy balance of school and things you love to do outside of school, as that’s what
makes life easier to manage.” Her main goal that she wishes to achieve in her career is to make
students comfortable with themselves, and be the best psychologist she can to help students in
need. Her friendly personality makes her easy to talk and relate to. In regards to your future, Ms.
Zeppieri believes one should, “Never settle. Always reach for the sky and work hard for what
you want to achieve.” Her words tell students never to give up and to be true to who you are."
