Juniata had a big game on Friday, September 28th against Pine Grove. Going into the game, Juniata’s team and fans were fully aware that Pine Grove has one of the best lines in the state! This, combined with senior quarterback Jeremiah Parson being out with a foot injury, left a tough situation for the football team. Freshman quarterback Jacob Condo stepped up in the first quarter completing some big passes and some crucial third down conversions. Juniata couldn’t manage to score in the first quarter, but that just gave them more motivation to win this game.
In the second quarter Juniata came out with some big runs against the Pine Grove defense, and ended the second quarter tied 14-14. After coming out of the locker room at halftime, you could feel the energy in the air. The football team knew that Coach Klingensmith’s 300th win was theirs for the taking. The Juniata defense held their ground and didn’t let the Cardinals score a single point in the third quarter. The offense managed to score one touchdown though to put Juniata up 21-14.
Going into the fourth quarter everyone knew it was going to be a showdown finish. Both of the teams wanted this game bad and they were ready to battle it out. The fourth quarter came around and Pine Grove scored a touchdown to put the game up 20-21 Juniata. But the Juniata offense fought back and put up another touchdown to seal the game for the Indians 28-20. This gave coach Gary Klingensmith his 300th win of his career, and Juniata their first win of the season. Good game, boys!
