The world is a scary and dangerous place, especially for young women. About 20.9 million adults and children are bought and sold in sex trafficking - 96% of them being women. Sex trafficking is not a new problem, but a new way to combat and prevent it is so simple that it's mind blowing. Spoons. People are now being told to hide a spoon in their underwear or clothing if they are being taken somewhere via plane against their will. The spoon sets off the metal detector and gives the victim a chance to get away from their kidnappers and speak with security - a last chance to sound the alarm. Airport security knows what the spoon means, even if you do not or cannot tell them directly. The spoon trick not only prevents sex trafficking, but also forced marriage, honor based violence, and FGM (Female Genital mutilation).
