The Wedding!

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle proved a welcome distraction from the normal news cycle. Markle, a biracial American divorcée, brings a wave of modernity into the House of Wales. The wedding itself proved to be ground breaking in so many ways. It featured a gospel choir, an American Episcopalian minister, and the new princess walking herself down the aisle. Here's to hoping this fairy tale has a happy ending.

Another High School Shooting

Eight students and two teachers were killed by a fellow student at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas. There is really nothing else to say that can fully describe the sadness of having to write this story again and again.

Hot Lava

Another story we wish would stop being newsworthy is the continuing eruptions emanating from the Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. The latest development is the "shipworthy" meeting of lava and haze called "laze." Laze happens when the hot lava reaches the ocean and produces a toxic mix of hydrochloric acid and volcanic glass particles into the air.

That's not even the worst of it. The volcano erupted at least twice over the weekend, causing  clouds of ash to shoot 10,000 feet in to sky.
