It is with pleasure that I introduce to you the Student of the Month for April, Mr. Danny Iacobacci. He’s ranked 12th out of 375 seniors with an unweighted GPA of 95.48 and a weighted GPA of 99.3. Danny has the potential to graduate in June with 36 college credits. Inside of school, Danny serves as the Video Club Technical Adviser, Relay For Life Online Event Manager/Chairperson/Event Leader/Team Leader, President of the Robotics Club, member of the Foreign Language Honor Society, the National Honor Society, President of the National Technical Honor Society, member of Dr. Gerold’s Leadership Club, and the President of Newspaper Club.
Danny was recognized earlier this year after winning Congressman Lee Zeldin’s “App Challenge.” He worked with a partner to build a prototype of an app designed to help Newfield students by providing access to scheduling updates, extracurricular activity events, lunch menu, meal account balance, and communications with teachers.
Ms. Lewkowicz, one of our Technology teachers, describes Danny as, “a God-sent.” Mr. Perera describes Danny’s “quick and acerbic wit, which can be both entertaining and engaging, as the hallmark of his character. His personality and drive mark him as one of the more outstanding and recognizable students at Newfield.” On his resume, he lists that he’s the Video Club’s Technical Advisor. To be honest, he’s everyone’s Technical Advisor at Newfield, including the Robotics Club where Danny oversees the designing, building, programming and operating of our championship winning robot. Danny will lead the team again this year at the Vex Robotics World competition in Kentucky which is coming up next week.
Danny will be attending SUNY Binghamton in the fall. Inspired by his father, a software engineer, Danny will major in computer engineering. His long term plan is research and development. He doesn’t want to work with anything that has already been created. New and innovative is the goal, and I’m sure he’ll create something spectacular someday.
Danny, I’m not sure what many teachers are going to do when it comes to anything technical once you’re gone! Congratulations on all you’ve accomplished so far. Newfield will miss you greatly!
