With the last couple weeks of school winding down, many seniors are excited and anticipating graduation. After a long long long six years, we are ready to close this chapter of our lives and move onto the next. East Juniata in my opinion is losing a pretty great group of kids this year, so here are some of our most memorable seniors. I asked six seniors questions about their high school experiences and here were there responses.
The girl who always had a smile on her face from the first day I met her, Gracie Brubaker. Gracie will be attending Elizabethtown College for Occupational Therapy. She says her favorite high school memory is the fun times with friends, making it to semi-finals in soccer, the yearbook editor field trip to NYC, and the friendships she made throughout high school. Gracie is involved in soccer, track & field, yearbook, NHS, TAG!, and the Athletic Council. A change she would like to see at EJ is more school spirit and her advice to upcoming seniors is, enjoy every moment and be kind to everyone. Gracie will be truly missed by many students and staff at EJ.
Another memorable senior is Jonathan Nace, who plans to attend Penn State Harrisburg for two years, then University Park for 2 more years studying large animal science. Jon would like to see the atmosphere of EJ sports programs to be like they used to be and to have more support and funding for our programs. Jon is involved in FFA, baseball, basketball, and soccer, and going to the state finals in soccer was his favorite high school memory. Jon’s advice to upcoming seniors is, have as much fun as you can and make memories with your friends you’ll never forget. I think a lot of seniors would agree that that’s great advice.
Many people will know this senior because of her musical talent, Sarah Irvin. Sarah is attending West Chester University for jazz studies and performance. After completing her first four years she plans on going to grad school to get her doctorate in jazz. Her favorite high school memory is being the last drum major of the EJ football band and being able to experience the last football season with AMAZING musicians. To no no surprise Sarah would like more recognition and support for the music program- good idea Sarah! Sarah is involved in Marching band, Concert band, Sr. High jazz band, Sr. High jazz combo, Jr. High Jazz as a mentor, chorus, TAG!, and NHS. Her advice to upcoming seniors is, don’t slack off your senior year, you are now a leader and a mentor to underclassmen. I couldn’t agree any more!
The next memorable senior is Adam Finkbiner, who plans on going to West Virginia with YWAM. YWAM is a world wide organization. He will be in WV for three months doing his Discipleship Training, and then his outreach program spreading the word of God. When he returns, he plans on working on the family farm, getting married, and starting a family. Adam is involved in soccer, FFA, NHS, and Ski Club, and his favorite memory is home soccer games under the lights. His advice to upcoming seniors is have fun your senior year, but don’t make dumb decisions. A change he would like to see at EJ is to be allowed to wear a hat in school. I think most the male population would agree!
Next up is the president of almost every club and organization, Jake Kinzer. Jake is involved in FFA, basketball, baseball, golf, NHS, Ducks Unlimited, and Juniata County Student Athlete Council. His favorite high school memory is winning the Extemporcanous Speech Competition at the State FFA Convention. Jake plans on attending Elizabethtown College and majoring in Enviromental Science with a concentration in Ecology. A change at EJ he’d like to see is for the morale of the school to continue to improve with the involvement of activities and other clubs. His advice to upcoming seniors is enjoy it while it lasts because it goes by too quick! I wish I felt like it was going by as quick as him!
Our last senior is Bre Terry, who will be attending Penn State University to major in pre-med to become a doctor! Bre is involved in soccer, tennis, basketball, NHS, yearbook, and is the senior class secretary/ treasurer. Her favorite high school memory is going to states this year in soccer, and playing sports with her classmates in general. Bre wants to see more school spirit at EJ, and her advice to upcoming seniors is don’t procrastinate! She says that you’ll really regret it in the long run.
These were just a few of EJ’s memorable seniors, but there are honestly so many more. This year's graduating class has some great kids in it, and they will be greatly missed. Good luck to the graduating class of 2018! I wish you the best in all you do!
