It is with pleasure that I introduce to you the Newfield High School student of the month for February, Ms. Allison Burfeindt. Allison is currently holds an unweighted GPA of 90.8478 and a weighted GPA of 94.5217. She has the potential to graduate in June with 24 college credits after challenging herself with a tough course load this year consisting of 5 college and AP level classes. In addition to a challenging senior schedule, Allison’s a member of the Newspaper club, Tri-M Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, SADD Club, Dr. Gerold’s Leadership Club, DECA, National Honor Society since 10###sup/sup### grade, secretary of our G.O., serves as one of the voices of Newfield handling the morning announcements daily, and has been a varsity bowler since 7###sup/sup### grade for our 2018 County Champion Girls Bowling Team. Somehow, given all that she does at Newfield, Allison manages to squeeze a little bit more into her schedule. She’s logged 120 hours as a group leader for bible school since 2014 at St. James Lutheran Church, has been a team captain the past three years for Relay for Life, and is a Girl Scout having completed her bronze, silver and gold projects.
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Allison for a little while to learn a little more about her. When inquiring about someone who inspires her, she said her mom, who came here from Columbia at the age of 20 and created a life for herself. Allison stated that her mom encourages and supports her every day, pushing her as far as she can go. When it comes to bowling, whether it’s practice or a match, Allison’s mom is there to support. She plans to continue her bowling career in college, something she’s loved doing since going to a bowling birthday party in third grade. From there she joined a league and hasn’t stopped since.
Mrs. Russo, Allison’s college English teacher, describes her as “fun-loving, but steadfast in making sure she doesn’t just meet, but exceeds her expectations on a daily basis.” Mrs. Russo went on to say, “she’s inquisitive during lessons, thoughtful on all assignments, and diligent in her work habits.”
Allison has applied to Molloy College, Sacred Heart and SUNY Plattsburg. Molloy and Sacred Heart are the top two due to the strong bowling programs they each offer. Her intended major is nursing.
Allison, staff and students alike describe you as organized, hard-working and never without a smile. You’re a true role model for your peers and an asset to Newfield High School. Congratulations on a job well done!
