It’s Broadway Night! On Saturday, April 14th, the Thespian Honor Society hosted its annual celebration of Broadway magic through song, dance, and instrumental performances. Both teachers and students took part to put on this wonderful night of performances from hit broadway shows, such as Phantom of The Opera, Wicked, Les Miserables, Aladdin, Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen and so many more. Newfield’s own, Mr. Murray, opened up the show with a show stopping performance on the piano through a pre-recorded video, as unfortunately he was unable to attend Broadway Night this year as he received last-minute seats to a show on Broadway. His spirit was still there with us as he took out the time to record his performance so he could still participate in this fantastic event. After the show opener, various solo, duet, and group performances came on for the audience who was instantly entranced into the magical world of Broadway. Some more staff from Newfield teamed up with students for some amazing performances throughout the night. A teacher/student collaboration between music teacher and band director, Mr. Austin, and a current band student, Will Hawkins, wowed the audience with Will playing guitar and Mr. Austin on vocals. For another performance, both Mr. Austin and Dr. Goldstein, band director, teamed up with a large ensemble of band students for a performance of a medley from Aladdin which transported the audience into the “Whole New World” of Broadway. Thank you to the Thespian Honor Society for putting together an amazing night full of impressive performances from our student body and staff.
