#BlackLivesMatter. #StandUpStandOut. #StayWoke. These are not just things found on twitter. These are sayings people all over the United States of America are starting to live by. There is a serious racial problem happening across the country. One could call it an epidemic of hate viciously growing and affecting the entire North American continent. Black people, especially young males, are being discriminated against by those who are supposed to protect us all—the police. Everyone has read the statistics, seen the news, and heard about the court hearings or lack there of. It is not just the legal aspect; the whole situation is morally wrong. It is about staying woke.
Spreading awareness about the racial issues from New York City to Los Angeles to a small town in Idaho is important. Together, citizens of America can speak out on the unjust treatment of others. For example, adding to the social media community and posting does more than one would think. Social media is the easiest and fastest way of spreading a message. Feeding into the hashtags matters, and with that you can make a difference.
Racial discrimination and prejudice is a very real issue that Americans has to face. As young adults, we must unite to have a louder voice and advocate for those who do not or #Can’tBreathe. Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Snapchat, and Reddit are all mediums for us to upload even simple pictures to express our shared view about police brutality. The future leaders of this country need to start practicing their way of bettering life starting now. So do not wait. Post. Reblog. Like.
