If any of you have watched Netflix lately (and I’m sure many of you have), you may have seen promotions for yet another Netflix Original called The Crown. You may wonder if this show is interesting or has any twists, and I can assure you that it does. The show is set in England and is based on the life of the English monarch, Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) and her surroundings. The show is originally set in 1947. Elizabeth’s father, George, is still on the throne as King, and Elizabeth is set to marry Philip Mountbatten (Matt Smith). Shortly into this first season, King George passes away, while Elizabeth and Philip are on the British Commonwealth tour. Upon returning home to London, the current prime minister, Winston Churchill (John Lithgow), and his staff begin preparing the young Queen for her ascension to the throne. Of course, many twists come up, and things do not always go as planned. Many times throughout this first season and into the second season, relationships will be tested. Elizabeth and Philip’s marriage will become heated and tense at times, as well as Elizabeth’s relationship with her sister, Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby). Elizabeth’s somewhat exiled uncle, the former King Edward, even makes a surprise appearance into the storyline. After watching, and re-watching both seasons, I can safely say that this show is going to be a hit among many viewers. It provides a thorough and accurate inside view into the lives of the English monarchy and the Royal Family, which few have seen. So, if you happen to tune into Netflix again and see The Crown as a recommendation, give it a try. Things just may surprise you!
