Last week, approximately 50 students from grades 7-9 were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) at East Juniata High School. Multiple people spoke at the event, including Mr. Fausey, Mrs.Varner, Mrs. Croissette, and five senior high members of the National Honor Society. Each senior high member that spoke, had a sibling that was inducted into NJHS, and many of the parents thought that was fantastic. The 5 members that spoke, discussed what National Honor Society is, and what you as a person have to have in you to be a member. To be more specific, Mrs. Croissette discussed the qualifications that must be met to even be selected to join NJHS, and the other five students individually spoke about the qualities a student in NJHS must have. Sarah Goss spoke about scholarship, and how one of the main characteristics of being a National Honor Society is maintaining good grades. Bre Terry, Lily Sankey, Beau Stuck, and Gracie Brubaker then followed by stating the other four crucial parts of being a member. These include service, leadership, citizenship, and character.
The inductees who qualified for induction were chosen because they each have over a 90.1 grade point average, all A’s/B’s, and they all participate in at least one activity. These inductees will be required to do at least 15 hours of community service each year, and maintain that GPA as well. East Juniata takes pride in student achievement, and this ceremony was a way to signify that our students at EJ are not only doing well in the classroom, but also in other areas in life.
