Poetry has existed for centuries, appearing in numerous cultures and taking on new forms.
For example, the Japanese have the haiku, which consist of three lines without any rhyme scheme. The first with five syllables, the second with seven and the the third with five.
Shakespeare, a notable poet and playwright, is praised for his usage of limericks and sonnets, which are other forms of poetry.
Like any form of writing, the tone and message can be anything you want it to be.
Simple and easy to write, I even wrote a haiku about pizza.
Pizza, my lovely
Cheesy warm and delicious
Nothing can compare
Anyone can be a poet! Sit down with a cozy blanket and some tea, and let that pencil glide along some paper.
Express yourself! There are so many forms of poetry, there is bound to be one you enjoy.
I'll finish with one of my Shakespearean sonnets.
Think of me when night falls upon your face
Only a caress, gentle, soft and kind
I yearn for comfort in an empty space In the universe,
I will never find A warmth that envelops me completely
It is something one searches for, for years
A feeling, a treasure, a memory
A gift that can obliterate all fears
Tears are driven far from tender canvas
The sweet scent of your silken mane wavers
Your voice fades, raspy and melodious
Lips pressed tight, unique with their own flavor
Alas the stars have sent me far away
If only I could stay right where you lay
