was the childhood mantra
as we sneaked glances from branches
and tried not to fear.

Secrets were told in the form
of hiding places.
Not far from home,
but far enough that it felt
dangerous.

Paths to trickling creeks
and dead leaves
brought with them
winds that smelled
like magic.

I have never shared anything
more special than locked eyes
and shared grins 
in a place that 
only two will ever know.
