As fall sports end, their regular practices and games cease, and offseason starts. Student athletes are left with more time in the evening, so some of that time should be used to do unofficial offseason workouts.
“Training helps you reach your full potential, instead of showing up at tryouts expecting to do as well as you did coming out of the last season,” said Louis DiFusco junior, varsity runner for cross country.
The time spent on intramurals or practices will help all student athletes to prepare for the upcoming season or future events their respective sport holds. Exercising is the key idea to hold on to, especially for athletes whose next sport doesn't start until the next school year. Staying in shape is the best way to prepare for the next season, so taking advantage of intramurals is the road to take once the season ends.
Student athletes will improve both from utilizing team practices and working out on their own, with exercises that they learn during regular season.
“Over the summer we have the unofficial practice just to get the team together, and getting the rust off and back in shape for the season,” said Sara Coyle, junior and a captain for the varsity girls’ soccer team. “It helps to bond connections and friendships that carry through the season [to come].”
