In September, the Book Club started reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. A beautiful tribute to the both the expected and unexpected victims of World War II, this book really left an impact on the members. They described it as “an absolute masterpiece,” “imaginative and emotional,” “an inspiration to writers,” and “a story that changed my life.” Though the book itself was a fantastic experience, what was even better was the discussion about it. Every meeting was a rollercoaster of excitement and energetic debate about every part of the novel.
The very last meeting we had for the book was on the last day of school before Christmas break. The members all met together in Mrs. Hund’s room to watch the movie based on the book. It was a great time spent with friends, both old and new, enjoying popcorn, homemade snacks, and hot chocolate, courtesy of one of the members. Watching the movie was a great way to end our time with The Book Thief. It was an emotional experience in its own way to see the story of the book brought to life. There were many tears shed, both during the book and during the movie.
Moving forward, the Book Club will be reading A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle, and we look forward to another amazing experience. Feel free to stop by and join the festivities!
