The Spartan Barbershop Chorus (aka Newfield’s Men’s Choir) is heading to California! The Spartans will travel to Los Angeles to sing in the International Youth Barbershop Chorus Festival presented by the Barbershop Harmony Society from Thursday, January 18th through Sunday, January 21st with the boys competing on Friday, January 19, 2018. The Spartans will be among 20 choruses from across North America who will take the stage in the tenth-annual event. The chorus has even put together a promo video to introduce themselves to the festival audience and a worldwide audience via a live stream. You can see our video at https://youtu.be/6-eqMav2ILA
The Spartans are directed by Kristi Adams, a choral teacher at Newfield HS, who introduced the style to her choral groups back in 2008. The festival is open to men’s, women’s or mixed-voice groups. The festival format includes two songs in the barbershop style, and one other piece in any style selected by the group. The Spartans will perform “She’s Gonna Love that Barbershop Song,” “What a Wonderful World,” and “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat.” The International Youth Barbershop Chorus Festival, now in its tenth year, is presented by the Barbershop Harmony Society, with support from its philanthropic arm, Harmony Foundation International, to the tune of $300,000 in travel support, lodging, and event fees in 2017 alone. Here’s what you can do in the next 10 days to support us:
