The East Juniata Lady Tigers basketball team is 9 games into their season, with an overall record of 5 wins and 4 losses thus far. In their league they are second in the western division with a record of 2-1. They are second only to their rival Juniata. As of now, the girls have lost to Greenwood, Line Mountain, Bellefonte, and Southern Huntingdon. The team hopes to buckle down on their fundamentals and maintain a winning record in order to qualify for district play in February. Last year in the 2016-2017 season, the Lady Tigers made it to the first round of state playoffs before losing to Old Forge.
Coach, Denis Leister, believes that his team should be 8-1 right now, maybe even 9-0. He thinks that the girls need to work on their offense and keep maintaining a strong defense. A majority of their games were low scoring on their part, with highs in the 20's and low 30's. The team's loss to Greenwood was partially because they only scored a total of 21 points to Greenwood's 28. They games where the girls scored in the 30's and even one time in the 40's, ended up in their favor.
The East Juniata Lady Tigers have 3 seniors, Haley Lash, Lily Sankey, and Bre Terry, who are all captains. The girls, seniors especially, would like to have a fun and successful season, but most of all they want to make districts. The other two starting players are sophomore, Thea Neimond and junior, Carly Beaver. The entire school is looking forward to watching the rest of the season, and hopefully post season play as well.
