#TWINNING
“Twin day” is always a fun spirit day in every school across the country. It just so happens that our very own Wellsboro High School celebrated twin day on homecoming spirit week. Unfortunately for those who are actual twins it is not a celebration of them. Instead it is a day in which students can “twin” or look identical to another student or students, and in our case, earn class competition points.Even though our twin day isn’t a celebration of twins, you can always go to the Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio. It is known to be the largest gathering of twins in the world! Admission to the grounds for the public, non-registered twins, and families of registered twins is $4.00/person per day (children 5 & under can enter for free. Admission is also free to Twinsburg residents, with proof of residency). The theme for this years festival held on August 4-7 2017 is outer space. “Twinfinity and Beyond!”
With all the fun of twin day I decided to catch up with some actual twins and triplets both in the faculty and the student body to ask them about being a twin!
I first talked to Luna Alexander, whose twin is Raine Alexander. I asked her what it’s like to be a twin. She told me, “being a twin is basically like having a sister, but better.” She told me that although they fight, she wouldn’t have it any other way. Raine agreed that she would not change having a twin. She said, “My favorite part about being a twin is that you always have a best friend.” Kaylee and Kara Doane are identical twins and are also sophomores at Wellsboro, along with Raine and Luna. Kara agreed with Raine and Luna that being a twin means always having your best friend with you. I asked her what her least favorite thing about being a twin was and she told me, “my least favorite thing about being a twin is when people can’t tell us apart or get us confused.”
We have multiple sets of twins in our faculty including: (I plan on inserting pictures of them and their twins as well as some quotes once they get back to me)
Mr. Brill & Mrs. Moyer (Autistic classroom teacher)
Mrs. Erway
Mrs. Davis
Mrs. Steinbacher
Mrs. Miller-Owlett and Mr. Miller are triplets with their brother, Chris.
Mr. Getty
I caught up with ⅔ of the “Miller Triplets” and asked them the same questions I asked the students. When talking to Mr. Miller, he told me his least favorite things about being a triplet were when his mother would dress them in the same outfits because it was “patronizing and often felt like we were in prison.” He added that he also didn't like sharing both a room for 18 years with his brother and “a womb with both his brother and his sister for 9 months.” I, of course, had to ask Mrs.Miller-Owlett what she thought of what her brother said about being a triplett and she told me that she can back up Mr.Miller saying he hated sharing a room with his brother, Chris. As for sharing a whom, “I doubt he remembers those days but if i had to guess he was probably the one doing all the kicking.”
